Touchscreen FAQ
I've starting putting together a FAQ page for those looking to build their own screen. It answers some of the frequent questions about hardware. Check it out here. If you have any additions you'd like to see included, post them in the comments section.

Nice one indeed. Maybe you can put some more links in it on where to buy the material online.
Yeah, maybe I will add those. Some links and info are in my mindmap. 90% of my materials I got off Ebay, so that's a good place to start. ;)
I think I inspired this faq :)
Here are a few more links for "pro" cameras:

http://www.ems-imaging.com/catalog/modules.php?name=catalog&file=product_info&cPath=32&products_id=59
This is not really FAQ related, but I didnt know another place to post it. Might be interesting for people to get another glimps of a building process.
I put my pictures online here:

I've got a couple of questions, I can't find any contact info, so I'll post them here.
I'm really interested in building my own FTIR panel, it sounds like a great project. I'm wondering firstly, what kind of projector you are using. I want to go for as cheap as possible, especially for my first prototype - but I'm debating SVGA vs. XGA. I'm not sure if the extra resolution is worth the (giant) price gap between the two kinds of projectors. Secondly, what Webcam would you recommend? I've found the Phillips one you're using fairly cheap (~$60), but you said you had to replace the lens assembly anyway, so I'm wondering if I might as well just find another (cheaper) without an infrared filter to begin, as long as it can also handle 640 x 480 @ 30fps. My main concern here is compatibility - trying to use your software to handle the tracking - and it seems like if I got the Phillips, it would have to work.
Thanks, (Your FAQ and Links have already been of great help)
Hey Dylan,
Sorry about the lack of contact info - I'll update those pages.
re: the resolution of the projector. It depends on how big of a surface you are planning to make. My projector is pretty crappy - it only does 800 x 600 resolution and isn't very bright. But I got it cheap with the intention of upgrading it later if I really wanted to. My screen is 24" x 18".
About the camera: I doubt you will find one without an infrared filter for cheaper that supports those framer rates. The lens is about 20-30$. Buying a professional camera that supports hi-res, high framerate and comes with the necessary filters could run you 500$.. Another option though would be looking into night vision security cameras and a video capture card.
The touchlib library supports all the major video capture methods (VFW, WDM) and also has support for specific camera SDK's via VideoWrapper. So, any consumer grade camera (or video capture card) should work and a bunch of professional cams too. Check out VideoWrapper on sourceforge to see what it supports.
Thanks for the quick reply. My screen won't be huge so I think I'm going to go with SVGA; initially at least.
I have another question: Do you have a link to where you bought your replacement lens for the Phillips webcam. I've been searching and have come up with a couple of results from companies that produce the lenses, but I can't seem to find places that sell them individually(the companies mainly do bulk orders).
Thanks for your help,
I got it off ebay. I think this is the one: http://cgi.ebay.com/4-3MM-4-3-MM-CCTV-Camera-board-Lens-IR-DVR-NEW_W0QQitemZ280050479334QQihZ018QQcategoryZ48839QQtcZphotoQQcmdZViewItem
only 15$.
Here's the link to the guy's ebay store: http://stores.ebay.com/MOTechnology
The wierd thing with ebay is that lens doesn't come up in searches but you can find it on that guy's store. Not sure why that is.
