sorry to post here, but what do you think about the new apple patents on multitouch? after what i've read the patent goes really in-depth about it and describes and patents about everything of what jeff's multitouch is all about ...

and wasn't the lemur first anyway?
The patents seem to be mostly about the multitouch gestures, but I still think there is a lot of prior work. The lemur was first, but it's gestures are pretty limited.
What do you mean with 'prior work'? Dev by/through Apple?
Maybe it just kind of bugs me that people work on this kind of thing and then comes Apple *snap* - and gone is the opportunity/freedom to use this kind of technology/use (the gestures as presented by jeff han) in all kinds of projects ...
by the way, do you know reactivision (free library for touch-/symbol-tracking): http://www.mtg.upf.edu/reactable/?software
By prior work, I mean that other people have done it before apple patented it, so I doubt their patents would hold up in court. Anyway, for small projects I don't think we have to worry about getting sued by apple.
I've seen the reactable, but I didn't know their software was open source. Pretty cool stuff. I've wanted to add support for marker tracking to touchlib. Could the reactivision software be used for a FTIR table?
As far as I know, yes you can (use it with FTIR) - the setup shown on their website only differs in the direction of the camera (they're not on the same axis). So the markers should work flawlessly and multi-finger tracking is also included.
I can't wait to use it on the multitouch and will keep you informed about my progress :)
