Diffused Illumination setup pics

I uploaded a few pictures of my diffused illumination setup to flickr, just in case anyone wanted to see how it's done. It's dead simple really, especially if you buy a pre-made IR illuminator like I did. For a diffuser I used mylar architect paper which costs about $5 and can be found in larger art supply stores. The camera is the PtGrey Firefly MV with a camera IR filter taped on. The mirror is a first surface mirror - a bit larger than I ended up needing. I probably could have gone with something 1/2 the size.

This is looking great Dave, its amazing to compare your FTIR version next to the DI version. Complexity VS simplicity :)...

Keep up the good work, and is the DI one going to be the one for work?

Great Stuff! What kind of IR illuminator did you use (product name)? And diffused illumination works in daylight too, doesnt it?

The ir illuminator is one I got off ebay. Just search for ir illuminator. DI can work lit from the front too though you need a fairly diffuse light source so that you don't get shadows.

very interesting!
some questions:
So, with DI you need only the plexiglass and the compliant surface (same as in FTIR)? No needs to polish the plexiglass sides?

What is the screen made out of? Same as for the FTIR version? Also - is it completely compatible with touchlib? Finally - how does it perform compared to FTIR?

Yes, it works with touchlib (there are example configs included with touchlib). I prefer it better than FTIR, but there are people who prefer FTIR better.
