Diffused Illumination
I finally got around to recording a video of the Multitouch screen I made for my employer, Archer Group. The table uses the Diffused Illumination technique and as you can see it's very sensitive. All in all I think the DI technique is the best since it's the easiest to accomplish and produces good results without too much trial and error. Other pics available here.

Hey!
My name is Francesco. I´ve to build a multitouch table by reason of my diploma thesis: "Multitouch interfaces for Textediting". This are the premises:
- fast blob recognition
- thus fast processing (takes less cpu)
- should also work in more illuminated rooms not only in dark ones
Can you tell me if I should use FTIR or rather DI ?!
Thank you!
I like DI better personally
awesome work.!
i am in the process of gathering the parts to build my own , but i was interested in your opinion about using the mitsubishi pk20 pocket projector for this project? if not , what do you think would be the min. lumen projector to use in order to still get good results.?
I think it's probably not bright enough to make a decent screen with (not bright enough to use with any lights on anyway). If you want to go small/cheap I would try taking apart an LCD monitor instead and going that route.
my current setup uses a psone lcd stripped and modded on my 3m ohp but the awkward setup having to fold(1st surface mirror) a couple times to get it to my surface.I was concidering trying to use a 22 in. lcd that the inverter went bad on, but didnt know if i stripped it out and used the bare panel (assuming its IR transparent)with diffused IR from rear, what could be used to light the panel with visable light and not interfere with everything else? what do you think about silicone baking sheet for compliant surface? right now im using tracing paper. :(
Sorry for all the bothersome question..... i really do appriciate your input. thanks again
Hi, can you tell me how do you make your screen? How many leds and the diffuser you use. Thanks.
